Research: textual analysis of a music video "all american rejects-gives you hell"

Context:
Gives You Hell" is a song by American rock band The All-American Rejects, released as the lead single from their third studio album When the World Comes Down on September 30, 2008."Gives You Hell" was written by Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter in Vancouver, Canada on a secluded writing trip for the band's third studio album, and recorded at George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch studios in California.it was about two neighbours who have different lifestyles, one having the life style of your good citizen and the other as the late night party rocker with load music, causing a clash between both of them leading to fights.

we enter into the music video with an establishing shot of a general house which then the camera brings us inside where we see a couple in separate beds when they go to bed, showing there pure good nature. then however the establishing shot then changes to a stranger house as it has multi coloured stripes along the side of it. 

Then the other character sings from his bed whilst the alarm clock is showing a time of approximately 10:30 the lyrics are : "i wake up every evening, with a big smile on my face and it never feels out of place". showing that waking up at 10:30 in the night is a normal thing.

The video then switches to the kitchen where they are having alcohol in their breakfast which is showing that they only party as there is only alcohol. with the lyrics "and your still probably working, at a 9 to 5 pace. i wonder how bad that tastes". showing this character as being the character that does not work as he is making jokes about the other character who works.

The next shot then takes the band to the garage where there is a lot of items organized showing the characters trait of being organized, he is wearing dark attire making him a stereotypical rock character. whilst singing "when you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell."

the next three shots are linked as the first shows the female in the "good" house waking up, followed by the people in the "rock" house doing a loud clap and then this is followed by the male of the good house waking up also with the lyrics throughout saying "when you walk my way hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell", however on the the last "hope it gives you hell" there is a close up on the rockers face making it seem as though this act is aimed.

the next shot shows the good couple struggling to sleep with good man shaking his head in disapproval whilst the women is trying to calm him down and tell him to ignore it. with the lyrics "where's your picket fence love?" followed by a shot back at the rockers house with the lyrics " and where's your shiny car? did it ever get you far?" making it seem as though the rockers did something to the good male making them enemies

the next shot is of the good couple who are outside and they are cleaning their car, then the turn the music up making the rockers come outside. During this the lyrics are " you've never seemed so tense love. never seen you fall so hard, do you know where you are? truth be told i miss you, truth be told i'm lying".

the next shot is when the rockers come outside and have a small argument with the good couple, with the chorus coming back "when you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell, when you walk my way hope it gives you hell hope it gives you hell, when you find a man thats worth a damn and treats you well, then your a fool you just might as well hope he gives you hell, hope he gives you hell".

The next shot is of the rockers on a lawn mower and the man on the back is playing a guitar during the instrumental making the editing match the song, this in context is used to get revenge for the previous occurrence in the day. 

the shot after this is the good male playing another prank on the rocker with a mirror to wake them up, the lyrics behind this is the chorus "when you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell, when you walk my way hope it gives you hell hope it gives you hell, when you find a man thats worth a damn and treats you well, then your a fool you just might as well hope he gives you hell, hope he gives you hell".

the next shot is off the rockers leaving the house in an attempt to prank the good couple again but on a larger scale with the lyrics "now you'll never see, what you've done to me, now take back your memories they're are no good to me, heres all you lies you cant look me in the eye with that sad sad look that you wear so well.

then when the good male come out there is a call and response between the rocker and the good male with the chorus: "when you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell, when you walk my way hope it gives you hell hope it gives you hell, when you find a man thats worth a damn and treats you well, then your a fool you just might as well hope he gives you hell, hope he gives you hell".

the final part is when the men then swap girlfriends ending in a different version of the chorus: "when you see my face hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell, when you walk my way hope it gives you hell hope it gives you hell, when you hear song you'll sing along and you'll never tell, then your a fool you just might as well hope he gives you hell, hope he gives you hell".
